Seven safari tents imported from South Africa, 180° views over the Chitwan plains and nature activities: Jagatpur Lodge is designed for wildlife viewing in Nepal.

Jagatpur Lodge offers a rare formula in Nepal: seven premium safari tents set on the edge of the Chitwan National Park, with 180° views over the plains. The property caters to travelers seeking to observe Terai wildlife without compromising on the comfort of a well-appointed lodge.

Why choose Jagatpur Lodge

The establishment stands out for its seven tents imported from South Africa, a format directly inspired by African safari camps and still uncommon in the Chitwan region. Each tent opens onto the plains, in a setting of bushland and towering trees. The promise is clear: sleep as close to the jungle as possible, with the standards of a premium accommodation.

The lodge is particularly suited for 2 to 3-night stays dedicated to wildlife observation and outdoor activities, as an extension to a circuit in the Kathmandu Valley or the Annapurnas.

Atmosphere and architecture

The safari tents are positioned on raised platforms, facing the verdant plains. The interior décor blends fine woodwork and silks, an approach that brings a refined touch to the canvas camp aesthetic. In the morning, the first rays of light filter through the fabric, creating a particular luminosity that sets the tone for waking before the safari departure.

The entire complex is designed so that common spaces (restaurant, terraces) remain open to the surrounding nature, with no sharp division between interior comfort and the bush.

Accommodation

The lodge offers two main categories:

  • Safari tents (7 units): tents imported from South Africa, 180° views over the plains, décor in fine woodwork and silks.
  • Luxury rooms: same level of comfort, with an open terrace overlooking the garden, bush and trees bordering the wetland plains.

Standard amenities include LED television, air conditioning and an Italian-style shower. High-speed WiFi covers the entire complex, a useful feature in an area where connectivity remains inconsistent.

Services and dining

The lodge operates on a full-board basis geared toward nature stays. The restaurant serves refined cuisine alternating between Nepalese and international dishes, served in the dining room or on the terrace depending on the meal. Staff coordinate activity departures, transfers and the organization of days in the park.

Services include airport transfers from Bharatpur, briefings before each jungle excursion and the availability of naturalists for safaris.

Location

Jagatpur Lodge is situated in the Chitwan National Park zone, in the Terai, the southern plains of Nepal designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its biodiversity. The region is reached by domestic flight from Kathmandu (approximately 25 minutes to Bharatpur) or by road (allow 5 to 6 hours).

The location, on the edge of the plains, places the lodge away from the tourist concentrations of Sauraha while remaining within reach of the park's main entry points.

Activities and surroundings

The lodge organizes several on-site activities centered on wildlife discovery:

  • Jeep safari within the park, searching for Indian rhinoceros, deer and, with luck, the Bengal tiger.
  • Canoe trip down the Rapti River, to observe gharials and water birds.
  • Forest hiking with a naturalist guide, to identify local wildlife and animal tracks.

Nearby Tharu villages lend themselves to a half-day cultural visit, complementing nature outings. Chitwan fits logically into an itinerary connecting Kathmandu, Pokhara and the Terai: to extend your stay on the capital side, properties such as Swotha Traditional Homes or the Hyatt Regency provide a base in Patan and Kathmandu.
