Electricity in Nepal
Electricity conditions in Nepal have improved significantly over the course of 2017. Before that date, paralyzing power outages were common, affecting city centers for hours daily. A load-shedding policy was in place, providing electricity access to certain neighborhoods on designated schedules.

However, the political administration decided to shift its approach to the problem and restructured electricity management, which had serious flaws. The most significant of these stemmed from corruption among inverter companies.
Thanks to these changes, while momentary power outages may occasionally occur in the Kathmandu Valley, they generally last no more than a few minutes. They are mitigated by inverters and generators that many businesses had equipped themselves with during the height of the outages.
Electricity During Treks
In remote areas and trekking zones, electricity access comes solely from solar panels. If you stay in a lodge equipped with these installations, additional charges may sometimes be requested for their use, to recharge your phone or camera, for example. If possible, investing in a portable solar panel or power bank could reduce your costs during extended treks.
