Chame (Nepali: चाँमे) is a town recognized as the district capital of Manang, situated in the Gandaki zone in northern Népal. It lies on the trekking route that traverses the Annapurna massif.

Geography and Climate

Located 45 kilometers as the crow flies northeast of Pokhara, Chame is an exceptionally authentic town. Perched on the northern slopes of Lamjung Himal at 2,650 meters elevation, its charming narrow lanes draped with prayer flags will captivate you. Between souvenir shops displaying all manner of handcrafted treasures and lodges perfuming the winding streets with aromatic spiced cuisine, you'll find yourself spoiled for choice. Numerous lodges and restaurants line the river.

Famous for sitting on the Annapurna Circuit trekking route, you can unwind at one of the celebrated natural hot springs, all the while gazing upon the majestic Annapurna II summit, visible from town. With its "tundra-like" climate, temperatures range between 10°C and −10°C, hovering around 0°C in spring and autumn. The more adventurous may visit Chame during the torrential monsoon rains, which make access considerably more challenging.

After a comfortable night in one of the town's many lodges, you can resume your expedition.

Transport

To reach Chame, first take a bus to Besisahar from Kathmandu. Upon arriving in Besisahar, it is possible to rent a jeep for the journey to Chame. If you're seeking adventure, you can opt for a trek from Besisahar to Chame, following the trail through Lamjung, Syange, and Taal Gaon.

Being a small town, you can walk through Chame without difficulty.
