Everest rises at the border between the autonomous region of Tibet in China and the Sagarmatha zone (Solukhumbu District) in Népal. It reaches 8,848 meters above sea level in the Mahalangur Himal, a range of the Himalayas, making it the highest point in Asia and the tallest of the seven summits.
