Jagat
Jagat
At 1,300 meters above the Marsyangdi, Jagat marks the official threshold of the Annapurna Circuit. Complete guide to this key stage of the Nepalese trek.
Located near Jitai in the northern region of Népal within the Gandaki zone and the Lamjung district, Jagat is a tiny village that stretches along a single street. Its name, meaning "point of entry," fits it perfectly since this small village serves as the first stage for the Annapurna treks.
While the village itself lacks particular charm, the nature surrounding it is quite another story. Its dirt road and old houses with corrugated metal roofs welcome numerous trekkers for a night before they venture onto the hiking trails. Situated at an altitude of 1,300 meters, Jagat overlooks a small valley that you cross via a footbridge. Your first night with your head in the mountains, an early morning wake-up is pleasant and gives you a first taste of what awaits you in the days to come.
Since 2012, a 4x4 track has been created to connect Jagat to Chame, which doesn't always please hikers but delights the Nepali, who are rather proud of it. Fortunately, the hiking trail lies far enough from the road to prevent disturbance from any vehicles that might use the road early in the morning.
